Single Stall Washrooms increase Accessibility
Using a public washroom shouldn't be stressful. Everyone should be able to use a safe washroom, wash their hands, and leave. But public washrooms are very gendered spaces, and often people have a pretty clear idea in their minds about who "looks like they belong" in "their" washroom. Some people experience harassment in washrooms because of the way they look.
Out on Campus and the SFSS took on a joint project in 2008: more locking, single stall washrooms on campus. These washrooms are made for one person at a time (just like the washroom in your house), and users have more privacy. These washrooms are wheelchair accessible, and will also include facilities for baby change tables, covered trash bins
for disposables and vending mechanics for hygiene products.
Anyone who wants more privacy in a public washroom is welcome to use the two washrooms in the MBC near the conference rooms/photocopiers hallway. There are also single-stall washrooms in the West Mall and AQ buildings.
