VO Salon Series: Ruth Ozeki

Ruth Ozeki, acclaimed novelist and Zen priest, will give a reading, followed by an open dialogue with the audience moderated by long-time friend and Vancouver Observer publisher Linda Solomon. The event is also the official BC launch of Ozeki’s new novel, A Tale for the Time Being. This is the first of the Vancouver Observer's new VO Salon Series: inspiring conversations at the intersection where politics, people and literature meet. April 16, 7pm, Anza Club, 3 West 8th Ave. $20 or free to VO subscribers ($10 or more).

SFU's GOT TALENT

SFU Global Awareness is proud to announce that we will be hosting "SFU'S Got Talent", and yes there will be judges :) If you feel like watching your fellow students perform (singing, dancing, stand up comedy, yodeling, etc)this is the perfect time. You don't want to be studying all day now do you? As Sweet Brown would say "Ain't nobody got time for that" The show will take place at the new theatre located near Maggie Benson. March 20th from 6 to 8 30!

COPA ALAS 2013: SOCCER TOURNAMENT FOR CHARITY

"It's A Girl" Movie Screening with Guest Speaker Langley MP Mark Warawa

The screening will take place 6:30pm in Lecture Hall C9001 on March 13, 2013. "It's a Girl" is a documentary that exposes the killing of young girls in India and China. Millions of babies are killed, abandoned, or selectively aborted -- just because they are girls (watch the trailer at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISme5-9orR0) What is horrifying still, is that this same discrimination is also occurring in Canada. After viewing the movie, Langley MP, Mark Warawa, will be the guest speaker of the evening.

Beginner Music Workshop - Learn to Read Music

Have you always wanted to know how to read music? Do you wanted to be able to understand the lines and dots on a page of music? SFU Recital Society is holding our first Beginner Music Workshop - Introduction to Reading Music In this workshop, we will be introducing and practicing reading simple music notation. This workshop is aimed at absolute beginners - people who have no previous music experience. It is free and open to all SFU students and staff.

WVSFU 30 Hour Famine

Ready to make a change? World Vision SFU is hosting our first ever 30 Hour Famine this March! The 30 Hour Famine is an event sponsored by World Vision, an organization dedicated to working with communities worldwide to have access to everyday necessities that we enjoy. With thousands of participants, where everyone goes without food for 30 hours straight in order to experience what it feels like to be hungry. Prior to the event, participants will raise money and collect pledges to go towards to cause of their choice.

Banner Bags Beyond the Bag Eco-Fashion Showcase

Banner Bags is holding our 2nd Annual Beyond the Bag Showcase at SFU Surrey Campus at SURREY CENTRAL at the Mezzanine! The Eco-Fashion showcase is the final stage before a winner is chosen from 14 final high school students that participated in our 6-month long competition. The competition gives high school students who are aspiring to continue their education in fashion the opportunity to show off their talent by creating an article of clothing or an accessory from street banners and other recycled material.
