Philosophers' Café
Philosophers’ Café is a series of informal public discussions in libraries, cafés, and restaurants throughout Metro Vancouver. The cafés, which are open to everyone, have brought dialogue and discussion to thousands of people who are interested in exploring issues from the absurd to the sublime.
Topic: Computers and the translation of language. Computers are now able to automatically translate between languages, but how reliable are these translations? When should they be used, or not be used?
Moderator: Moderator: Dr. Fred Popowich is a professor in the School of Computing Science and an associate member of the Linguistics department and of the Cognitive Science program at SFU. He is also the director of the Vancouver Institute for Visual Analytics and of the Canadian Network for Visual Analytics.
